September is coming fast. Florida Division January Issue of the magazine is very SPECIAL and we want everyone to be aware of all the GREAT things happening in Florida. In the message below is listed specific requirements for publishing articles and photographs. Lets all make the January issue of UDC Magazine the best ever !!!!
-Deadline for submitting articles for the January issue is September 1st and should be sent to Gayle Avant (contact for address)
-Articles of approximately 1,000 to 1,500 words should be typewritten,
double-spaced on
8 1/2" x 11" paper. Type on one side of paper only. If you have a
computer, PLEASE put your article on a 3 1/2 floppy and include a hard copy
of the article. Identify software used. Please understand that the diskette will
not be returned. Do not submit articles that have previously appeared in print.
-Retain copies of all material you submit. Do not send original letters and/or photos. These will not be returned. Photos will be returned IF you submit a self-addressed, stamped envelope (proper size) and it is included with your original mailing.
-Historical articles should cover historical sites or events during the 1861-1865 period.
-Please include the full name of person submitting article, their Chapter name, office held, etc. Include a bibliography when appropriate. Articles without the above mentioned information will be held until the information is received.
-Every effort will be made to include YOUR article in the January issue, however it is not guaranteed. Articles not published immediately may be held for future issues.
-ADVERTIZING is extremely important!!! Anyone taking out an ad shall make their checks payable to YOUR CHAPTER for the cost of the ad. Your chapter treasurer will submit one (1) check made payable to "Treasurer General, UDC" for all ads submitted by your chapter. See the attached pages for current prices and dimensions of ads. Draw the desired size on a blank page and MAKE your typed copy fit that dimension. (Reduce the size at a copy shop if necessary). If a logo or photo is not camera ready and must be resized, send $5.00 for each one that will be used. Photos should be black & white glossy or very clear color shots. There is a $30.00 charge for each photo with Division news. NEWS OLDER THAN SIX MONTHS WILL NOT BE PRINTED.
-Brief "In Memoriam" notices are free as is Division news. Picture "In Memoriam" is $30.00
-Please send two (2) copies of ads, together with one (1) check made out to Treasurer General, UDC to Gayle Avant by September 1st. Do try to plan your chapter budget so you may participate in the Florida issue with ads and pictures.
The Chapter actually EARNS MONEY when an ad is sold - 20 %.
I look forward to submitting your articles, ads and pictures to the UDC General Organization so they can see how vibrant our UDC Chapters are in Florida.

For value vs. space, ten column inch ads will pay for a full page yet takes
up only one of the three columns on that page, leaving two columns for articles.
Have your advertisers make their checks for the ad price amount to your chapter
then you submit one check for all ads sent by your chapter, made out to the
Treasurer General UDC. Your check will be for the you send amount.
