ESSAY CONTEST FOR UDC MEMBERS IN THE FLORIDA DIVISION
Essay Subject 2007: "A Florida Confederate Hero" (any Floridian during the war with
the reason explained by the writer)
Eligibility: Any member of the Florida Division United Daughters of the
Confederacy®
Presentation: Use letter size paper on one side only, essays must be typed,
please double space; allow an one‑inch marginal frame. No handwritten essays
will be accepted. Only one essay per person may be submitted for this contest.

Fictitious name
Date essay is submitted
On outside of a #10 business size envelope, write fictitious name, on a separate
sheet of letter size paper, write name, complete mailing address, chapter name,
and district number of UDC member.
Seal envelope and attach to essay.
Contest: Accuracy of historical content
Adherence to subject
Interest appeal
Footnotes citing authorities required
Direct quotation MUST have quotation marks
Complete bibliography required
DO NOT use the term "Civil War" when referring to the
WAR BETWEEN THE STATES.
This will result in disqualification.
No set length; however, writer should keep to the subject
Plagiarism will result in disqualification
Note: Essays become the property of the Florida Division United Daughters of the
Confederacy®
Writers should retain a copy for their files.

Award: Winner of Florida Division UDC Member Essay Contest will receive a
monetary reward and a Certificate of Merit ‑ $25.00
Notification: Bestowal of award will be made at the Florida Division Convention.
