Thomas Benton Ellis Chapter 1816

Organized November 2, 1922

In choosing his name, the Chapter honored one living Private and all Private soldiers 
as a whole. THOMAS BENTON ELLIS, 1842-1926, was from Gainesville, Fl.  A Private in the 
Confederate Army, Florida Infantry, Company C, 3rd Regiment,  he was selected to be honored 
because he represented the heart of the Confederacy.   
Organizing Officers were elected on November 2, 1922, and the 
Charter of Thomas Benton Ellis Chapter was signed on November 1, 1923, when 57 ladies 
became Charter Members.  Today, we boast 45 members. 
 
Meetings are held at 10:30am the second Saturday of each month, September through May.  
Eligibility is by invitation.  You must be at least 16 years of age, a blood descendant of a man or woman who served honorably in the Confederate States of America or gave material aid to the cause. Adopted children are ineligible unless proof is presented of a biological blood line.
